Errr if I had know this was a love triangle I would have never bought this book. I can’t stand triangles!!! But putting that pet peeve aside the story itself is really good and the only reason I am still reading. I am really looking forward to seeing how this ends, but I am really disappointed in the romance aspect of this series. I wish there just wasn’t any love interests at all and just give me the main story. I definitely wouldn’t classify this as a romance and would have scored it higher if it was just a mystery. I have read other books by this author and was trapped inside other triangles, was hoping maybe all her books weren’t like that, but so far this doesn’t seem to be the case. Not sure I will be reading her again after this series if that’s all her romance consists of.Product details

Alyssa is a witch trained in the light arts as opposed to dark arts. On her upcoming 21st birthday she will transform from a mortal witch in training to an immortal. Her parents are both
extremely powerful and only they and a few other immortals they have confided in, know how powerful Allyssa will be. In this second book in the series, she begins to discover her own powers while fighting off all manner of immortals. She also continues to struggle with her love for Kane, a nightwalker and supposedly her enemy as well as her growing love for her bodyguard, Gage. The plot is way too complicated to explain in a review, however, the story is filled with passion, humor and lots of action. While not completely a cliffhanger, you most definitely will want to finish Allyssa's story.
This book, I have to say it’s weird. I liked the first one better, and I liked book three much more as well.
However, this book has its good parts, great action parts, and more information is revealed, that helps us put some pieces together.
Also, we get to see Kane trying to woo Alyssa again.
***SPOILERS***
After breaking up with Kane, because he’s a vampire and she’s a witch, Alyssa gets to spend a lot of time with Gage, who is a dark user. During this time, I actually get to like Gage a lot and I start hating Kane.
Gage is sweet and super tender with Alyssa, he never wants to take advantage of her, even though she is throwing herself at him so that she can break the sexual connection with Kane, because he knows that she is still in love with Kane.
While Kane is rude and mean, and treats her terribly.
At the end Alyssa ends up sleeping with Gage, breaking the connection with Kane, and Kane realizes that she never played him, and wants her back, because he is still in love with her.
Of course I like it that Kane realizes he was an idiot and he tries to fix things, and I like it that Gage messed things up. It levels them up, and adds more tension to the interactions between the three of them.
I enjoyed reading this book as much as the first. The romance and the action were still good. There is still chemistry between Alyssa and Kane but now she has that chemistry with Gage as well. The sex scenes with Gage are hot as they were with Kane in the first book. I noticed a few grammar mistakes but they did not distract from the story. Like with the first book, the story kept my attention and I read it in one sitting within a couple of hours.
I was disappointed in the main characters' behavior. I felt both Kane and Gage treated Alyssa poorly. Because she gave her virginity to Kane, a bond was formed that makes her crave him sexually. This craving gets worse as opposed to better as time goes on and when she is near him. However they are not speaking to each other due to misunderstandings and being natural enemies. What attempts Alyssa makes to be with Kane, he rejects her, knowing that she is suffering. I was disappointed in Kane and felt that he deviated from being the jealous, possessive, alpha male that he was in the first book. Kane knew that the only other way to end her suffering other than being with him was to have sex with someone else. He is basically allowed that to happen, by not helping her. The way he was in the first book that never would have happened. Then when Kane sees her right after he knows that she had sex with Gage, he does not seem that upset. Again, that is contrary to the way his character was from the first book.
I was disappointed in Gage as well. In the first book and until he let her suffer, I was on Kane's side. However when Kane turned away from her in her time of need and Gage helped get rid of her pain, I wanted Gage to be with Alyss. However, when Gage makes out with another woman and it is implied that he did that throughout their relationship and possibly did more, he fell out of my favor. I really dislike cheating and his lame excuse as to why he did it was pathetic. When Alyss slept with Gage again after catching him cheating on her made me think less of her as well. Because all evidence suggests that Kane never had sex with or even kissed anyone else after being with Alyssa, I am firmly on his team again. I am hoping she gets a HEA with Kane in the third and final book and he again acts like the crazy in love, possessive jealous hero that he is and puts a stop to any relationship that Alyss has with Gage.
This 2nd installment in the Deadly Beauties Series was ... amazing!! The first book took awhile for it to gain some traction with me, probably because I was a little irritated with how naive, gullible and weak Alyssa was BUT damn did that change in this book and I couldn't be happier since weak, naive female characters are a huge pet peeve of mine. I love how the author has allowed her to grow more self aware, powerful and open minded to the world around her forcing her to make her own decisions versus what others have told her. The love triangle between Kane and Gage is hot hot hot ... maybe she can just have both of them??? Reverse harem action, maybe add in a few more male characters for her, hey it's a good idea! But I digress, great book, excellent characters and very much looking forward to reading more in this series and by CW Owens. 😊
