I picked up a copy of Vertical Gardening, looking for a fun way to grow some of my own fruits and vegetables. I simply love the information in this book and think it will be easy to do. I started last year with two hanging baskets for my tomatoes. It kept the squirrels and rabbits from getting to them. I love the idea of creating a small wall to put the potted plants on. It's something I hadn't thought of before.

If you have limited space it's OK. This book will show you how to get a small or larger going with the limited space you have available. The book covers choosing your plants, preparing the soil, planting your garden, the proper pots and containers to select, preparing a arbor, arches, trellises and much much more...

For my space available I love the hanging planters section. This is where my focus will be as I only want a small garden and love the hanging variety to keep the animals at bay. It covers such ways as shoe organizers, stacked pots, and I love the living wall. It truly can be beautiful while providing you with such great produce.

The suggested fruits to grow are grapes, melons (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew and casaba), kiwi, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The vegetables that are suggested are summer squash, winter squash, pumpkins, eggplant, pole beans, and gourds. With this great selection you can have quite a variety of fruits and vegetables while having a great hobby.

The book even provides information on how to weed, fertilize and prune your plants. There's even a section on controlling pests.

I think anyone could learn how to start a great garden with this book, so if you are thinking of starting a small garden yourself, this book will truly help.

Vertical Gardening More Garden in Less Space Gardening Basics for Beginners Series Nina Greene 9781634283366 Books Reviews

Vertical gardening is something that's always been there but I never really thought of doing it. I'm not really a gardening person but I feel like it's been trending these days and it's a project that I would like to look into. I kind of have the same feeling towards gardening with pots. I found this more interesting because it's a space saver!

So I previewed the book and most of the topics I felt were very appropriate for beginners. It's a pretty easy read and it will get you ready to starting your very own vertical garden, covering the designs, the things you'll need, the types of seeds that are conducive for vertical gardening, etc. You'll be ready after reading this book!
Great Beginners Series! As the title states, this book is for beginners and gives an overview that allows each person to decide what is right for them without a large investment of time. Many things in life today, are all inclusive and overwhelming. I found this book to be just as it stated,,, for "Beginners". Lauren / Bookmaster
To the point and informative. I am greatly interested in expanding my self reliance skills and this book gave me some great ideas and information on the topic of gardening. In the past I have not had much luck raising a garden outside of the normal practice of using horizontal earth. I will give this a go soon.
When space is limited for gardening, many people often give up on the idea. This book will re inspire us to give it another thought and try. Creative use of gardening tips help give the enjoyment of gardening another way to be used effectively and the smaller space to be productive.
This book had so many great ideas in 35 pages. Growing plants in shoe organizers? Who knew? Yet apparently it's a growing trend. As an apartment dweller with a tiny balcony, this book showed me how I can grow kiwi, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables vertically. I also learned the differences between arbors, arches, and trellises, and usefull advice like spraying water on bugs and then wiping the leafs to get rid of insect eggs instead of using pesticides (although bugs are rare with vertical growing), etc. I also appreciate the pictures in the book, loved the one with the big plant hanging with ropes, very cool.
Bookmarking two articles on vertical gardens provides more specific and useful information than this pamphlet. The author is abviously skilled and knowledgeable on the subject but I expected less broad-sweeping cheerleading for the idea and more actual "how-to" specifics of vertical gardening.
I've long been a fan of vertical gardening - ever since I read an article on vertical farming. Going up is so logical as opposed to using more land. There are ideas galore for those of us who love our plants - both flowering, trees, and veggies.

I went right to the chapter on containers and hanging planters as they're my favorite. However, I fell in love with the idea of creating a living wall. The sample photo was so beautiful - what an enhancement to a house - or even to a border wall.

If you like gardening, grab this book - beautiful photos and great advice.
